ObiexHQ turned 4 today. 🥳
And somewhere between meetings, I found myself reflecting, not just on how far Obiex has come, but how far I’ve come because of it.

It’s been a while since I picked up my pen to write, so today felt like the perfect moment.

A few weeks ago, I came across a debate on whether working a 9 to 5 is a waste of time compared to building your own business. While I understood the bias towards building over contributing, I also noticed how narrow some of the arguments were.

Starting something of your own takes real courage (I know this firsthand), but people often forget one important thing: the building of self.

Working at the right company isn’t just about tasks or titles. It’s about who you become along the way. In my 3 years at Obiex, I’ve grown through layers of transformation. I’ve become a better designer, a better teammate, and a more grounded person. Shaped by the work, the standards, and the people around me.

I love to work at startups for two reasons: the unpredictability and the iterative nature of work. There’s plenty of that here, and it’s helped me build resilience, adaptability, and confidence. Wherever I go next, or whatever I choose to build, I’ll carry that mindset with me, the courage to take risks and the willingness to start over when needed.

There’s also something deeply fulfilling about contributing to something meaningful. No, I don’t own the company, but there’s a quiet reward in knowing I contributed to its growth trajectory, even through the smallest things.

You don’t need credit or leadership for your work to be valuable. One of my favourite quotes by Harry Truman says: “It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” It may sound unambitious, but it speaks to a different kind of purpose. The kind that cares more about impact than applause.

This is my way of celebrating this milestone. I’m grateful to be part of this team. And here’s to more years of showing up in our best shoes and putting our best foot forward.
